Debate Competition

The Centre for Criminology and Victimology, in collaboration with the MUN Club at the School of Legal Studies, hosted a dynamic and thought-provoking debate titled “Capital Punishment for Rapists: A Deterrent or a Delusion?” Students from across disciplines brought the room alive with compelling arguments, interweaving statistics, moral perspectives, and personal convictions. The debate delved into critical questions: Can capital punishment truly deter crimes of sexual violence? Or does it risk undermining justice by overlooking ethical implications and survivor dignity? The atmosphere was intellectually electric as speakers navigated the complex terrain between justice, retribution, and reform. The winners of the debate were Mr. Pankaj Parashar (B.A. LL.B. (H.), 8th Sem.), Mr. Nishchay Nath Tiwari (B.A., LL.B. (H.), 8th Sem.), and Ms. Deeksha (B.A. LL.B. (H.), 6th Sem.).
The event concluded with warm thanks from Dr. Megha Garg, Chairperson of the Centre, who emphasised the importance of such platforms in building a justice-orientated legal consciousness.
