The School of Emerging Media & Creator Economy at K.R. Mangalam University is dedicated to becoming an internationally recognised media school through excellence in interdisciplinary, project-based, student-centric education. In alignment with the New Education Policy 2020 and the vision of “Viksit Bharat” as envisioned by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, we emphasise experiential learning that promotes holistic development across cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains.

The School of Emerging Media & Creator Economy regularly conducts events and activities for students to acquire practical expertise. Students often visit various media houses and attend workshops, events and panel discussions.

The School of Emerging Media and Creator Economy successfully hosted its most awaited annual creator’s event, CREATE-A-THON, celebrating creativity, innovation, and collaboration among budding creators. The event featured inspiring sessions by eminent content creators and industry experts, including Ms. Anushka Bajpai, Mr. Abhishek Vaid, Mr. Devesh Sharma, Mr. Nikhil Chandra, Ms. Ritika Suryavanshi, Chef Jaspreet Singh, and Mr. Gurpreet Singh, who shared insights on content creation, freelancing, storytelling, motion design, and balancing passion with academics and professional life. Their guidance motivated students to pursue creative ventures with perseverance, innovation, and confidence. Participants showcased their talents through a variety of competitions including Open Mic, Filmography, Micro Drama, Instagram Reel Making, and Podcasters’ Challenge, reflecting originality, skill, and storytelling prowess. Over 125 entries were submitted, and winners were recognised with certificates, cash prizes, and accolades, while all participants and coordinators received appreciation for their contributions.

The School of Emerging Media and Creator Economy successfully conducted a Capacity Development Programme on the theme “Visual Moves – Animation and Motion Graphics in Modern Storytelling.” The event aimed at enhancing students’ skills while making them aware of the latest technological trends in digital storytelling. The session highlighted how animation and motion graphics are reshaping modern media narratives, offering creative ways to engage audiences. Students explored practical aspects of animation workflows, motion graphics applications, and their increasing relevance in the media and creative industries.
The resource person, Mr. Trilok Singh, CEO of Post A2Z social media shared his expertise on areas such as web development, server configuration, live server software installation, animation processes, and motion graphics trends. His insights inspired students to think innovatively about integrating technology into storytelling.

School of Journalism and Mass Communication at K R Mangalam University organised a special session on “Career Counselling ( Higher Education Abroad & Scope of Internship- International). The guest expert was Mr. Kaushal Seth, renowned senior counsellor and career guide. During the session, Mr. Kaushal Seth shed light on the opportunities for students who are planning to study abroad for higher education or want to settle down permanently. He highlighted the potential for financial incentives through academic excellence when pursuing education in various countries. He further enriched the discussion on career counseling, providing students with insights into international education. This session turned out to be very fruitful as many students had queries about scholarship opportunities and shaping their career path through higher education.

On the first day of their three-day educational visit, SJMC students had an enriching experience at Hello Haldwani 91.2 FM Community Radio. Dr. Rakesh Rayal, Associate Professor and Incharge of the station, delivered an insightful lecture on the relevance, functioning, challenges, and opportunities of community radio, highlighting its critical role in empowering local communities. Students observed live station operations, interacted with the RJ, and interviewed Radio Journalist Ms. Shiwani Bhaskar, gaining hands-on experience. Notably, the Journalism Department of Uttarakhand Open University expressed interest in establishing an MOU with SJMC, to foster academic collaboration.

School of Journalism and Mass Communication organised an extension activity titled ‘Awareness of e-Governance using mobile phones in Berka village. Students conducted in-depth interviews with the community members’ to examine their usage of internet for e-governance. They concluded the interviews with short exercises to inform the respondents about the different government services that they can avail online. The activity successfully achieved its research and learning objectives. Students had a hands-on experience of implementing research projects in contexts vastly different than their own as the activity integrated experiential learning in real-world community projects.

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication organised an industrial visit to India Today Group at Film City, Noida. The students participated in the famous ‘Halla Bol’ program of Aaj Tak, hosted by renowned journalist Anjana Om Kashyap. The students also interacted with many famous spokespersons of different political parties and asked questions related to the Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir elections, Bull Dozer politics, and other socio-economic and political matters concerning the society. The visit provided valuable first-hand experiential learning knowledge to the students in the field of journalism regarding conducting live debate programs and broadcasts.

School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) organised a fruitful Industry Exposure trip to Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, allowing students to maximize their industry connections, improve their reporting and media coverage skills. The summit commenced with the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, delivering the keynote address, touching upon significant issues like India’s future, economic growth, digital transformation, and a forum for global leadership. The summit discussions were illuminating and stimulating, giving several perspectives on India’s current developmental trajectory. V9 Network and News9 were also present, providing extensive media coverage throughout the day. KRMU students were given an exceptional chance for field reporting, media documentation, and networking with industry experts in real-time during the event.

School of Journalism and Mass Communication organized an industry visit for students to News 24 Channel situated in Noida. The students of SJMC attended a Live Conclave hosted by News 24 and visited the Prime Time Studio, PCR Room, Radio Studio, and several regional channels of News 24. Moreover, students learnt about the importance of the room lighting and camera placement required for the setting. They were also shown the significance of a teleprompter which is required for the newsreader to present the news. Along with explaining the concepts of input and output, the students were also exposed to the working of both the Production Control Room (PCR) and Master Control Room (MCR).

School of Journalism and Mass Communication signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with New Delhi Film Foundation. Mr. Deepak Mishra, officiating Registrar of K.R. Mangalam University and Mr. Ashish Singh, Founder-General Secretary, NDFF formalized the partnership. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof.(Dr. ) Raghuvir Singh, Vice Chancellor, KRMU, Gp. Capt. P Mahajan, COE, Prof. (Dr. ) Neeraj Khattri along with all the faculty members of SJMC. This collaboration aims to create educational and professional opportunities such as workshops, film festivals, and networking events, empowering students and professionals in the fields of filmmaking, journalism, and mass communication.

School of Journalism and Mass Communication, K. R. Mangalam University, Gurugram, and Newspaper Association of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of esteemed dignitaries. KRMU and NAI collaborated for academic exchange (including internships/workshops/seminars/ on-the-job training of students) and cooperation in education, research, and training with the objective of building competency, developing journalistic skills, and molding the mindset students through various programs and activities. This partnership will strengthen the foundations of journalism, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to face the challenges of the future.

School of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a special session on “Film Studies” The guest expert was Mr. Vijay S. Jodha, eminent writer, photographer, and filmmaker. Mr. Jodha passionately encouraged media students to consider a career in filmmaking, emphasizing the importance of keen observation. He urged students to seek internship opportunities with established filmmakers as a valuable learning experience. Mr. Jodha also highlighted that success in the film industry requires dedication, practice, and time. This insightful talk served as a valuable source of inspiration specially for students who aspire to be filmmakers.
School of Journalism and Mass Communication organised an enriching alumni connect on “Creator Economy Entrepreneurship”. Ms. Pravina Srivastava, working at Asian News International (ANI) was the invited alumni for the session. Ms Pravina’s key note laid emphasis on the challenges included as a package while pursuing a career in the media industry. She also highlighted the importance of creativity and innovation as essential drivers in the media industry and how creative economy is coming up with the opportunities in it. Discussing her journey into the media industry she inspired the attendees. She laid paramount importance on building connections with established industry professionals. This event served as a platform for current students to gain practical wisdom and foster valuable connections within the media field, contributing to their future success.

School of Journalism & Mass Communication organised an engaging workshop with RJ Naved, who shared insights on radio, podcasts, and digital platforms. From the art of pranks to the power of podcasts, students were all ears as he spilt the secrets of ruling both radio and the digital world.

Reflecting on my time at K.R. Mangalam University as a Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication graduate (Batch of 2017-2020), I can say it was truly transformative.
