As the Dean of the School of Basic & Applied Sciences, I am proud to share that since its inception in 2013, the School has consistently upheld a strong tradition of delivering experiential, real-world–oriented education across its undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. The School offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Forensic Science, along with Ph.D. programmes in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Forensic Science. Each programme is thoughtfully designed to equip students with strong conceptual foundations, analytical skills, and practical expertise, enabling them to apply their knowledge for societal advancement as well as professional success.

Various events are held at SBAS, ranging from insightful seminars to engaging workshops that provide students with valuable industry exposure. These events are thoughtfully designed to showcase the dynamic nature of scientific exploration while fostering curiosity, innovation, and practical learning among our students.

School of Basic and Applied Sciences conducted a visit in Ghamroj Village, for the “Case Study on Drug Addiction Through Survey and Deaddiction Campaign.” The initiative involved surveying nearby villages to understand the prevalence of drug addiction, followed by a comprehensive deaddiction campaign. This effort reflects the school’s dedication to addressing critical societal issues and contributing to the well-being of the local community.

School of Basic and Applied Sciences conducted a counselling session in the government school of Daulha Village, Gurugram, Haryana as a part of an extension activity titled “Effect of Electronic Devices on Education of Students.” During the event, students from the school were made aware about the benefits and applications of Focus mode and Bedtime mode already available in their smart phones and laptops for their benefits. Overall, the extension activity proved to be a fruitful initiative in fostering understanding and awareness about the influence of electronic devices on education among school students.

School of Basic and Applied Sciences organised a competition on “share our similarities and celebrate our cultural differences”. The event began with a welcome shloka sung by one of the students. Students gave performances as per the theme of the event by means of dancing, Singing and skit. Meghna Gangwar, a student of MA JMC performed a skit highlighting the prevalence of Western culture in India and won the 1st prize, while Swayam a BBA student sung a song and was conferred with the 2nd prize.

Students of BSc (Hons.) Forensic Science got a unique opportunity to step beyond the classroom and engage with history and forensic science tangibly. During the visit, Students explored the museum’s extensive collection, including original skeletal remains and archaeological artefacts that offered a window into the past. This hands-on experience was invaluable for deepening their understanding of human history and forensic anthropology.

The Department of Forensic Science, SBAS, successfully organised FUSE 1.0 (Forensic Understanding and Scientific Exploration). The two-day event began with a lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by activities such as a treasure hunt and poster-making competition on Day One. Day Two featured a quiz competition, cultural performances, and an expert session by Dr. Suminder Kaur, Assistant Director of the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Delhi, where she shared her experiences in forensic DNA casework. The event concluded with a valedictory session, where Dr. Suminder Kaur awarded prizes to competition winners.

The School of Basic and Applied Sciences organised a session on “Guiding Your Future: Expert Session on Career Counselling” during the Deeksharambh Student Induction Programme. The session featured Dr. Tapan Chakraborty, former DIG/Deputy Director of the Bureau of Police Research and Development, and Ms. Komal Yadav from the Department of Cyber Security and Digital Forensics at the National Science Forensic Laboratory, New Delhi. Students were introduced to various forensic roles, including forensic scientist, crime scene investigator, and digital forensics expert. The experts emphasised the importance of developing critical skills, gaining practical experience, and pursuing relevant degrees and certifications. Dr. Nitin Tyagi concluded the event by highlighting that career counselling equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate their career paths in forensic science effectively.

School of Basic and Applied Sciences conducted a visit to government school at Daulah Village, Gurugram, Haryana as a part of an extension activity titled “Effect of Electronic Devices on Education of Students.” During the event, students of K.R. Mangalam University engaged with 9th, 10th and 12th standard students of the government school. This interaction provided valuable insights into the lifestyle and study environment of the school students. It was an enriching experience for the university students to directly engage with the fellow peers from the government school. Through this interaction, they gained a deeper understanding of the impact of electronic devices on education.

School of Basic and Applied Sciences conducted a visit to government school in Abheypur Village, Gurugram, Haryana as a part of extension activity titled “Effect of Electronic Devices on Education of students.” During the event, student engaged with 9th, 10th and 12th standard students of the government school. They conducted surveys to understand the habits of electronic device usage among these students. This interaction provided valuable insights into the lifestyle and study environment of the school students. Through this interaction, students gained a deeper understanding of the impact of electronic devices on education. The exchange of ideas and experiences between the students from different educational backgrounds was truly enlightening.

School of Basic and Applied Sciences, Dept. of forensic science celebrated Forensic Science Week from September 18th to September 22nd, 2023, with a series of engaging and informative events. The week-long celebration aimed to promote awareness and understanding of forensic science among students, faculty, and the wider community. The celebration began with an inauguration ceremony and cultural program. Various events like model making, photography competition, guest lecture and much more exciting events for students to participate
It provided a platform for students to explore various aspects of forensic science, learn from experts, and showcase their talents. The week-long celebration fostered a deeper appreciation for the field of forensic science and encouraged students to pursue excellence in this critical discipline.

The School of Basic and Applied Sciences organized an industry visit to RJ Forsec Solutions in Delhi, as part of the Deeksharambh Student Induction Programme. During the visit, B.Sc. Forensic Science students explored the Cyber Forensic Lab, gaining hands-on experience with cyber forensic tools and techniques. This practical exposure provided valuable insights into future career opportunities in forensic science. The field visit proved beneficial in clarifying students’ doubts about job prospects in the field.

Students of BSc (Hons.) Forensic Science attended 4th International Forensic Science Conference held at Patel chest institute, University of Delhi. The conference proved to be an exceptional opportunity for our students to broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of forensic science. Students had the privilege of interacting with these eminent personalities, gaining exposure to cutting-edge developments in forensic science, and understanding the practical aspects of their field. The discussions, workshops, and presentations facilitated by the esteemed speakers have undoubtedly enhanced our students’ knowledge and perspective. Their engagement with professionals of such high calibre not only broadened their academic understanding but also allowed them to explore potential career paths and establish valuable connections within the forensic science community.

School of Journalism & Mass Communication organised an engaging workshop with RJ Naved, who shared insights on radio, podcasts, and digital platforms. From the art of pranks to the power of podcasts, students were all ears as he spilt the secrets of ruling both radio and the digital world.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the School of Basic and Applied Sciences, KRMU and Shivaji College, University of Delhi. This collaboration aims to conduct joint workshops, conferences, and seminars focusing on recent advancements in science and technology. Additionally, the MOU includes provisions for joint supervision of Ph.D. students in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and facilitates faculty development programmes, student exchange programs, and internships for students.

School of Basic and Applied Sciences, in collaboration with KEIC and the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Science Society, successfully organized an Inter-University Science Fiesta. The Fiesta featured four engaging activities such as Science Quiz, Science Themed Games and Puzzles, Science Movie and Refreshment, Science Model Exhibition. Overall, the Inter-University Science Fiesta was a resounding success, characterized by active participation, knowledge sharing, and fun-filled activities. Students thoroughly enjoyed the event, fostering a spirit of curiosity and exploration in the realm of science.

School of Basic and Applied Sciences organized a seminar on career counseling under the theme alumni: great stories begins here.KRMU Alumni Mr.Agnivesh was invited to motivate students. This event encompassed diverse career options for science graduates, including research, academia, industry, and entrepreneurship. Mr. Agnivesh Tiwari shared his journey,highlighting the pivotal role his academic foundation played in his success. Students got a clear understanding of their career prospects and networking connections with accomplished alumni. Furthermore, the event instilled a sense of motivation and self-assurance among attendees, reinforcing their belief in the limitless possibilities their degrees could offer.

Students of Forensic Science visit at City Police station, Gurugram where they learn the Process of FIR, Police organizational structure, understanding the roles of officers, constables, and support staff. They get a glimpse into the jail system—its administration, security protocols, and the challenges faced by inmates. Also, they learn how evidences are collected and sent to the forensic lab.

Students from the School of Basic and Applied Sciences visited SCERT Gurugram as part of the Deeksharambh 2024-25 Student Induction Programme. The visit provided an insightful experience into the functioning of SCERT and its contributions to educational research and training. The event was coordinated by Dr. Pardeep Kumar and Ms. Sapna. During the visit, students were introduced to various initiatives and programs aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the state. They explored the different departments within SCERT, gaining insights into the curriculum development process, educational research projects, and the training modules designed for in-service teachers. The students also had the opportunity to interact with the faculty and staff of SCERT, discussing the challenges and opportunities in the field of education. This interaction provided them with a broader perspective on the educational landscape and the role of research and training in shaping future educators.

This programme is unique in that competitive exams are prepared for concurrently. The institute has created a setting where we can advance our general awareness, mathematical prowess, and reasoning skills. The teachers have given us specific instructions to ensure our success because they are well-versed in the intricacies of this exam.
